Help me grow!
Areca Palms have a strong sturdy base, with many big, frond-like, compound leaves; hence the name “Palm”. It can be bought as a small house plant and will grow about 6-8 inches annually (like your growing kids). Just keep trimming it a little and it will beautify your home for its lifespan of about 10 years. All it needs is brightness, moisture, fertilizer, love, and care.
- Summers - Just enough Water/mist to keep the soil moist in summers. Winters - Water me only every other day to keep the soil slightly dry.
- I like it when it’s bright, but strong, direct sunlight turns my leaves yellow. - When I’m young, winters can be harsh for me, so bring me indoors when it’s freezing outside.
- As I grow, repot me every 2-3 years into larger pots as smaller pots crowd my roots and limit my size.
- Fertilise me regularly so I keep getting my nutrients and keep growing.
FAQs
- Can I propagate Areca Palm at home?
Sure. Once I’m big and strong remove one of the offshoots right from the base keeping the roots intact. Plant the roots & offshoot in another pot. Remember this is not the same as cutting, this is Vegetative Propagation. - How can I keep the Areca Palm disease-free?
If my leaf tips turn brown or yellow, simply snip off the tips and it won’t hurt my growth at all.
Mealybugs and spider mites also bother me. All of these bugs will feed on my stem and leaves causing damage and brown leaves. Take the help of a pesticide, gently spray me to get rid of these pesky bugs
